Licensing, terms & privacy

This work includes material from the System Reference Document 5.2 (“SRD 5.2”) by Wizards of the Coast LLC, available at https://www.dndbeyond.com/srd. The SRD 5.2 is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC-BY-4.0).

SRD data is sourced from Open5e (api.open5e.com), document set srd-2024. Conditions are drawn from srd-2014, which the 2024 SRD folds into its rules text. Both are licensed CC-BY-4.0.

Some character backgrounds beyond the SRD set are drawn from the Level Up: Advanced 5th Edition System Reference Document by EN Publishing, also licensed under CC-BY-4.0.

Playable species beyond the SRD set come from two open sources. Some are public-domain folklore and mythology (such as centaurs, satyrs, and kobolds), with all rules text written originally for Torchlit. Others draw on concepts from the open Pathfinder catalog by Paizo Inc., used under the ORC License and the Open Game License, again with rules text written originally here. Torchlit is not affiliated with or endorsed by Paizo. Trademarked, non-open species from other publishers are not included.

This project is an independent tool and is not affiliated with, endorsed, sponsored, or approved by Wizards of the Coast. It uses only SRD content and excludes trademarked Product Identity, including reserved creatures (such as the Beholder and Mind Flayer) and non-open player species. “Dungeons & Dragons” and “D&D” are trademarks of Wizards of the Coast.

Torchlit is provided as-is, with no guarantee of uptime or of keeping any particular campaign forever. The stories, characters, and rulings at your table are generated by AI and are fiction; don’t rely on them for anything but the game. You own what you bring to the table and you’re responsible for it: don’t use the service to harass people, break the law, or attack the service itself. We can suspend access that does. These terms can change as the product does; the current version is always this page.

We store what the game needs to run: your campaign state (the story so far, the world, the session log), your characters, and, if you sign in, the email address you sign in with (authentication is handled by Supabase). Anonymous usage analytics may be collected to improve the product. We do not sell your data, and we don’t share it beyond the services that run the game.
